Buffer-gas-induced absorption resonances in Rb vapor

چکیده
We observe transformation of the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) resonance into an absorption resonance in a L interaction configuration in a cell filled with Rb and a buffer gas. This transformation occurs as one-photon detuning of the coupling fields is varied from the atomic transition. No such absorption resonance is found in the absence of a buffer gas. The width of the absorption resonance is several times smaller than the width of the EIT resonance, and the changes of absorption near these resonances are about the same. Similar absorption resonances are detected in the Hanle configuration in a buffered cell.

Laser Spectroscopy with Nanometric Cells Containing Atomic Vapor of Metal: Influence of Buffer Gas
Comparison of absorption and fluorescence in a nano-cell containing Rb vapor with other Rb nano-cells where neon gas is added is presented. The effect of collapse and revival of Dicke-type narrowing is still observable for the Rb nano-cells where Ne gas is added under 6 and 20 Torr pressure for the thickness L=/2 and L=, where is a resonant laser wavelength 794 nm (D1 line). Particularly fo...
متن کاملEffect of atomic diffusion on the Raman-Ramsey CPT resonances
We experimentally investigated the characteristics of two-photon transmission resonances in Rb vapor cells with different amount of buffer gas under the conditions of steady-state coherent population trapping (CPT) and pulsed Raman-Ramsey (RR-) CPT interrogation scheme. We particularly focused on the influence of the Rb atoms diffusing in and out of the laser beam. We showed that this effect mo...
متن کاملSaturated absorption spectroscopy: elimination of crossover resonances by use of a nanocell
It is demonstrated that velocity selective optical pumping/saturation resonances of reduced absorption in a Rb vapor nanocell with thickness L= λ, 2λ, and 3λ (resonant wavelength λ = 780 nm) allow the complete elimination of crossover (CO) resonances. We observe well pronounced resonances corresponding to the Fg = 3 → Fe = 2, 3, 4 hyperfine transitions of the Rb D2 line with linewidths close to...

We report an experimental comparison of three-photon-absorption resonances (known as “N resonances”) for the D1 and D2 optical transitions of thermal Rb vapor. We find that the D2 N -resonance has better contrast, a broader linewidth, and a more symmetric lineshape than the D1 N -resonance. Taken together, these factors imply superior performance for frequency standards operating on alkali D2 N...
متن کاملElectromagnetically induced absorption and transparency due to resonant two-field excitation of quasidegenerate levels in Rb vapor
Positive and negative subnatural-width resonances ~SNWR! were observed in the absorption and fluorescence of rubidium vapor under excitation by two copropagating optical waves with variable frequency offset. The two optical fields resonantly couple Zeeman sublevels, belonging to the same ground-state hyperfine level ~GSHL!, to an intermediate excited state. The SNWR present opposite signs depen...
